When We Love The Least of These

I visited K-Love's website this morning to look for some happy news. This video happened to be on their home page this morning.

I tried to post the video here but it looks like they're on the Sony Label and it can only be shared on certain sites. Anyway I LOVE this song. A few years ago I read a book by Wess Stafford, the former president of Compassion International. It's titled "Too Small To Ignore: Why the Least of These Matters Most." It's kind of a memoir but it also focuses on the importance of children's ministry, not only abroad but also here in the US. I've been involved in children's ministry one way or another since high school and it's something that's very dear to my heart.

My favorite summer was spent serving with NAMB in Louisville, KY. I worked for the Baptist Fellowship Center doing day camp, organizing a clothes closet, and food pantry. I lived in the parsonage of a small church plant so as repayment my roommate and I helped with their Sunday School classes, outreach, and VBS.

Something I've been thinking about lately is how caught up I get in my own life and forget to look for ways to serve others. I've recently been pondering the idea of starting some kind of soup kitchen in the area where I live. There are several in Knoxville but I know there are homeless and hurting people in this area too that might benefit from something like that. Maybe some of them aren't homeless but still don't have enough money to provide nourishing food for their family. Does anyone know how you would even get that started?

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Matthew 25:35-40
